How can computers be our trainer in learning a second language?
By CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning), we can learn more second language easier than conventional way. For example, we can use application of dictionary that completed by how to pronounce the word correctly.
Here I want to tell about how CALL used to help us in language teaching and learning especially speaking skill. There are two kind of CALL applications needed to be understood. They are application in the Mechanical Dimension and application in meaningful dimension.
CALL application in Mechanical dimension focus on pronunciation. By aid from computer, learner easy to trainee their own ability to speak English. It is more interesting because at the same time computer can give feedback automatically.
CALL applications in Meaningful dimension prefer to stress on communicative speaking which is use computer as main aid. Basically this application is used to help learner be more fluent to speak their target language. For example radio streaming, chatting in social network, email, video chat, etc.
Using CALL in language teaching and learning is giving many advantages such as learner is not to be ashamed to try their ability to use the target language, because they shouldn’t to show it to others or being afraid to be laughed when he/she do a mistake. However, behind the easy of CALL, we also need to think about the cost that relative high get recent CALL. Moreover technology is advance faster than our income, right?
That’s why I think, although CALL used well by learner, it’s not be effective if there is no a role of real teacher who can guide and enrich the learner knowledge. So, CALL is used to support language teaching-learning process, not to substitute the language teacher.

yups you’re right win, using CALL is really helpful in teaching and learning not only for the students and also for the teachers, means that the teacher can give a good example in pronunciation like native speakers and the students can do practice by them selves…when you are teaching will you maximize using CALL in the class?
